"Bulb: Up to 3cm diameter, composed of two large, fleshy scales, and often with bulblets.
Stem: 15-45cm in height, smooth, bright green.
Leaves: Basal leaves short lived, oblong up to 8cm long; cauline leaves 4-11; linear, alternate, 8-10cm long.
Flowers: 1 or 2, broadly campanulate, nodding.
Segments: The outer segments broadly oblong, recurved at the tip, 2.5-5cm long, 1cm wide, olive green, streaked brownish purple on the outside, yellowish within; inner segments broadly ovate, recurved at the tip, 4cm long, brownish purple on the outside, green with purple veining on the inside.
Nectaries: Ovate to ovate-lanceolate, green or blackish in colour, 5-11cm long 2-4mm wide, situated just above the perianth.
Style: 8-12mm long, divided into three branches, each branch between 3 and 5mm long, reddish, slender, smooth.
Capsule: Not winged.
Flowering time: III-V
Habitat: Scrub, corn fields and open woods up to 1000m.
Distribution: Turkey - South western and south Anatolia; Cyprus and Lebanon.
Cultivation: This a handsome species that requires a hot, sunny, free draining position if grown in the open ground, otherwise it can be easily grown in the bulb frame or alpine house. "
