Narcissus do best when not disturbed. Clumps may be divided once every 4-5 years; with the species, in May, after they have flowered but before the foliage begins to die down and with garden varieties in July, when foliage has completely withered. Bulbs should be replanted immediately. A top dressing of bone-meal very early in spring is beneficial. Bulbs grown indoors should be allowed to die back gradually after flowering by withholding water. Bulbs should then be removed from pots, cleaned and replanted in the open garden in August, mixing in a little bone-meal with the soil.
