BABY'S TOES (Fenestraria aurantiaca)

Fenestraria aurantiaca (syn. Fenestraria rhopalophylla), known as Baby's Toes or the Window Plant, is a lovely succulent that grows up to 15cm tall. It is native to South Africa.

On each leaf there is transparent window-like area at the top, it is for these window-like structures that the genus is named Fenestra. In the wild, the plant grows mostly buried by sand. The transparent tips are often above the sand and allow light into the leaves for photosynthesis.

Produces large yellow flowers that form around the perimeter of the plant on long stalks.

Prefers full sun and a well-drained soil. Hardy to -4°C.
