Planted in early spring, Alliums are best grown in a herbaceous border or in a container on a patio or deck. Soft pink with a metallic tinge, the resplendent globe-shaped flower heads are made up of dozens of tiny, beadlike flowers. Before the giant seed head blows away it can be pulled gently from the subterranean bulb and fixed in the border for display at the end of the season. This is an easy-care plant. The bulbs are not for eating, so keep away from children.
